The Sikh Medical Initiative (SMI), in collaboration with Sikhs in BioMedHealth (SiB), is hosting Sewa in Scrubs: Identity and Resilience in Medicine, a conversation exploring careers in medicine and research while staying connected to Sikh identity and chardi kala (eternal optimism).

The panel will feature Dr. Komal Luthra, an Interventional Pain Fellow at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Dr. Karan Jatwani, Assistant Professor of Medicine at George Washington University. Drawing from their experiences in pain medicine and oncology, respectively, the speakers will discuss how they have carried their identities throughout medical training and their careers.

The conversation will explore navigating challenging clinical experiences, developing resilience, finding meaningful mentorship, and building careers in medicine and clinical research. Panelists will also share perspectives on pursuing PM&R residency and Hematology/Oncology fellowship, becoming involved in research as a premedical or medical student, and navigating life as a Sikh in medicine.

The event will conclude with advice for the next generation of Sikh physicians and researchers, followed by an interactive Q&A where attendees can ask the panelists individualized questions.
